Review: literally seeing different things
Thanks to The Book Network for organising our virtual blog tour. They also read the book and have put up a detailed review on their website.
Rather than framing inequality as a straightforward failure—of effort, empathy, or goodwill—it suggests something more uncomfortable: that many of these conflicts are sustained by invisibility. Not wilful blindness, not malice, but deeply ingrained ways of perceiving and organising the domestic world.
It’s a subtle but powerful shift. Because if the problem is not simply that one person isn’t trying hard enough, then the usual solutions—nagging, explaining, even calmly presenting “the facts”—start to look strangely ineffective.

Online Launch Event 13-07-2026
Monday 13th July 6.00pm to about 7.30pm
We’re doing an online launch event this coming Monday.
The event is being organised by Online Events who mainly do seminars and the like for counsellors and therapists. But the event is aimed at everyone and will mostly be Helen and Matthew talking about the themes in the book and how we came to write it. We will also be talking about how professionals can use ideas from the book in their work with couples. We’d love to have some friendly faces in the room, so if you’re free on Monday between 6.00pm and about 7.30pm please consider coming along.

I (Matthew) didn’t realise this when I set it up, but it does mean that there’ll be some tech people looking after the zoom call, which takes a load off me and Helen. And we’ve got a £2 discount code for book orders from our SUMUP shop for anyone attending the event, so that’s something.

Launch Day: Monday 13th July
Equality at Home is due to be published on Monday 13th July.
Update: Well, it sort of hit the virtual shelves a bit early. But we are having an official launch event on Monday 13th, and that’s the day the Kindle eBook and some of the Audiobook providers are releasing it. Audible, paperback, and hardback are on sale now.
We’re excited to launch the book into the world and will be trying to spread the word in various ways. Please follow us on the social media, pre-order the book (paperback, hardback, eBook, or audio book), and tell your friends.
At the time of writing we’re just finishing up work on the website—they’ll be more material coming here soon—and doing the various last minute things ahead of publication. We’ll be blogging here, publishing some video interviews, and posting regularly to Facebook and Instagram. We hope to give you a flavour of the book and also supplement the themes of the book with additional material. Watch this space.
