About Us

Buzzing Hell Press is a collaboration between Matthew Elton and Helen Beebee.

We created Buzzing Hell in order to publish and promote Equality at Home: why we argue about the washing-up and how to stop. Maybe there’ll be more books from Buzzing Hell. We’ll see.

Matthew Elton

Matthew Elton is a psychotherapist and supervisor based in Edinburgh. He works with a wide range of clients and practitioners, but has a special interest in work related to writers and artists. His formative training was in Transactional Analysis and he has since developed a strong interest in narrative therapy. His most recent book, co-written with Helen Beebee, is Equality at Home: why we argue about the washing up and how to stop (Buzzing Hell Press, 2026). His book for therapists and counsellor is Talking It Better: From Insight To Change In The Therapy Room (PCCS, 2021). He is also author of Daniel Dennett: Reconciling Science and Our Self-conception (Polity, 2003).

Helen Beebee

Helen Beebee is a philosopher based in Leeds. She has written and edited a bunch of academic philosophy books, but she’s also written a couple of philosophy books for a general audience — Philosophy, Why it Matters (Polity 2019, with Michael Rush) and Free Will: An Introduction (Palgrave Macmillan 2013) — as well as a book with no philosophy in it to speak of, with psychotherapist Matthew Elton: Equality at Home: Why We Argue about the Washing-up and How to Stop (Buzzing Hell Press 2026).
